In a beautiful film made by theatre company Gecko for BBC Four, a group of dancers is seen as they move through an ambiguous ‘institute’ – a place that sometimes feels like a bank, at others more like a care home. Here, the choreography explores a constant push and pull between individual and the collective, between order and chaos.
For the opening titles, I kept the design neutral and ambiguous to reflect the environment – but in animation, the typography really comes to life; going back and forth from structured legibility to a choreographed, incomprehensible chaos as the letters dance around on screen.
